Imagen is Google’s dedicated image generation family available through Gemini API and adjacent creative surfaces. It still matters for teams with existing Imagen-backed workflows, but Google’s current deprecation table lists all Imagen 4 API endpoints with a June 24, 2026 shutdown date.

Current Lineup

As of June 8, 2026, Google’s model and pricing pages still document Imagen 4, Imagen 4 Ultra, and Imagen 4 Fast. The operational point is lifecycle, not capability: imagen-4.0-generate-001, imagen-4.0-ultra-generate-001, and imagen-4.0-fast-generate-001 are all scheduled to shut down on June 24, 2026.

When to Choose Imagen

Choose Imagen only for short-horizon compatibility, existing workflows, or comparison testing before migration. For new Google image-generation work, start with Nano Banana 2 for the default Gemini-native lane or Nano Banana Pro for professional and grounded image work.
