grok-imagine-image is xAI’s standard Grok Imagine image model for API-driven image generation and editing. It replaces the older 1212-era naming used in earlier docs and sits alongside the newer grok-imagine-image-quality model for higher-realism work. After the May 15 retirement, xAI routes the old grok-imagine-image-pro slug to grok-imagine-image-quality, not to this standard route.

Use this route when you want Grok Imagine’s image capabilities with lower per-image cost and standard creative throughput.

Capabilities

The model supports text-to-image generation, image editing, multi-image editing with up to three source images, and batch-style workflows that can return multiple variants from one request. xAI positions the image API around practical creative production: concept images, product visuals, style transfers, and assistant-linked visual generation.
