Qwen3 is Alibaba’s model generation built around hybrid thinking modes, multilingual reasoning, coding, and tool use. The original April 29, 2025 release centered on Apache 2.0 open-weight models. Alibaba has since extended the family through Qwen3.5, Qwen3.6, and proprietary hosted Qwen3.7 tiers with 1M-token context options.
Current Latest
Qwen3.7 Max is Alibaba’s current hosted flagship, with a 1M-token context window, hybrid thinking, coding and productivity positioning, and built-in agent tools through Model Studio. The stable alias is currently text-only; Alibaba also offers a separately pinned June 8 snapshot with image and video input.
Qwen 3.6 Max Preview and Qwen3-Max remain active older hosted routes but are scheduled for retirement on October 10, 2026 in favor of Qwen3.7 Max. Open-weight Qwen3.6-27B, Qwen 3.6 35B-A3B, and earlier Qwen3 checkpoints remain the self-managed side of the family.

When to Choose Qwen3
Choose Qwen3 when multilingual quality and regional deployment flexibility are first-order requirements. The family is also a good fit when you want to mix open models for controlled environments with proprietary hosted tiers for harder tasks. Use Qwen3.7 Max as the quality escalation route and smaller Plus, Flash, or open-weight variants for routine traffic.
